adverse reactions to medication???( treatment for cocci)

I posted last week about my chickens being treated for cocci with Albon, they finished up treament yesterday for the cocci, but I am thinking the medication is actually making them sick. Yesterday they seemed to be a little lethargic, just lying down in the warmth of the sun, which would be fine, BUT- It seemed EVERY time I looked out the window they were all lying down. Then today my BA was all fluffed up and stayed by herself for most of ther day and she slept alot today. I called the vet to ask about the medication causing a reaction-he said no. But I think it is from the meds-to much of a coincedence for all 5 girls to be so tired and then the BA to be all fluffed up today. They all have been eating normally and drinking and their poops seem ok. I didn't give them any treats or greens today, I figured pellets were enough with them not feeling well. Anyone else have a negative experience with Albon. If Shirley (BA) is not herself tomorrow she'll be going to the vet.

Shirley is clearly not feeling well this morning-when I went to let the chickens out she just stood there all fluffed up. So I'll be bringing her to the vet today. I also got her first poop of the morning- so I'll bring that with me too.

Albon is another name for sulfadimethoxine. It can be harsh on their systems. More importantly it only kills 2 types out the 9 types of cocci that chickens can get. You're probably dealing with one of the types of cocci that albon is ineffective against. I recommend that you purchase Corid (amprolium) 9.6% liquid solution at your feed store, in the cattle section, and administer it to your chickens. Dosage is 9.5cc's per gallon of water for 5 days. You can put the 1 gallon mixture in their waterers to drink. It must be their sole source of water to drink. Dont add vitamins or ACV in it neither. Corid is not harsh on their system.

Thanks for the info on using corid to treat cocci-that is the same stuff they use in the medicated chick feed-right? Do you reguarly treat your birds for cocci? Shirley is not doing well at all, I thought as the day went on today she would be back to her normal self.
