I see a lot of posts about organic eggs, free range eggs, farm fresh eggs, etc. I know what free range is, but what determines the others? My chickens are confined to their coop and run 24/7. They have to be to keep them safe from predators. Because of this, they are fed Purina Laying Feed as well as whatever they get out of the run. The run, as you can probably guess, has no grass in it anymore, though. How would my eggs be classified?

I'm not sure, but I'm interested to know the answer!! Mine are the same way...have to protect them from the hawks and dogs!

Thank you. Do you know what the qualifications for the other classifications are? I'm just curious.

This page has a definition of each 'label' you can call eggs by:

Hope this helps.

Keep in mind those are just the definitions the Human Society of the United States would like everyone to use. They are in no way official.

The fact of the matter is that except for "organic" which is now regulated by the USDA there are no standards to define what all these terms mean thus the confusion. Your best bet would be to cultivate your customers with a fresh product that they can clearly see and/or taste is different from the factory raised eggs from the grocery store. That's the kind of advertising that is the best.
