Good morning everyone. I wanted to check if I was doing anything wrong. My Australorp is 20 weeks old and not laying eggs. She is in a large enclosure with a small coop to sleep in. She has a lot of purina grower feed and daily leftover from the house. Is there anything I need to do to get her to lay eggs? She does not free range unsupervised because we have many predators.

Human kids, boys and girls, start physically maturing at different ages than other boys and girls. Some are much earlier than others, some later. Some pullets start laying at an earlier age than others. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, it's just nature.

20 weeks is fairly young for an Australorp to start laying. Some do, I've had some start that young, but I've also had some start a lot later.

Ya know, I have three daughters and everyone wants to know when they are going to have kids, and I just say that they'll have them when they're good and ready! Be patient; they look like healthy, happy chickens. Just wait until they give you the tiny new eggs (aka fairy eggs). You will fall in love. :love
