So to make a long story short, there was an ad on the craigslist, and a person I know on FB had contacted the owner of a 2 yr old buckskin mustang colt. She couldn't take the horse due to her daughters age so passed the information to me.
I emailed the owner and we started texting.
At first she wanted nearly 200 for him, after a few hours she dropped the price to 85. Soon after that I found out he wasn't gelded, and she insisted that she could not and would not take less than 85. She had to have the money to pay for what was left on her rent and she was moving.
I said "oh well, if you need him hauled, let me know." she said " I can haul him".
SO I started to think about him, and I know I am slightly manic depressive, and I have highs and lows.
I know I am in a low phase because i CANNOT stop thinking about him.
I texted her again and got her to accept 75, I was supposed to go get him today, but I got two texts from her on
Monday saying she was available that morning. A previous text said she would not be home between 7:40-1pm on
Monday.
So texting back and forth, she gave me the address, and I scrambled to get the trailer hooked up, get the directions, throw some hay to my horses, then go get gas.
She had texted she needed him gone on MONDAY or he would be considered "dead stock", now I think she meant abandoned, but you just never know.
I texted "thats fine, I'll get directions via Mapquest." I called as I left the farm where my horses are at, and then texted after I had gassed up that I was on my way.
She came back with "I'm on my way to the Doctors..u didn't get back to me."
I pulled over and was seriously angry. I texted back, "I called and what part of "that's fine (in reference he had to be picked up on Monday or something terrible would happen to him) and I am getting directions did you not understand"
I then just threw up my arms and texted "I was trying to help, perhaps its best he be considered "dead stock".
I headed home, and this morning I just read I could get him for free, and her uncle would be there...
I want him so bad he is a buckskin mustang, with frosting on his mane, tiger stripes on his legs..
I had not realized that where I keep my horses, my friend would have an issue with me bringing him in.
She was willing to make the exception but her daughters would have a cow...

I have wanted a horse like him for a LOOOONGGG time.
Hay is very hard to get right now, but I have only a few horses so am able to get smaller amounts fairly easily.

Oh and the kicker, I googled the address and found out its a catholic order of foresters, I found a number and called them.
It turns out her grandfather either owns the property or is the care taker. I don't think grandpa would do something bad to the horse...

SO I am torn, I want him, I am worried about him. But I think she is lying just to get rid of him.
Help!

It's entirely possible that he isn't her's to sell and frankly it sounds like you are dealing with a 14-16 year old girl. Not to mention that if he is a branded BLM mustang he cannot legally be sold within the first year after his adoption. We do a little horse trading on Craigslist and when someone acts crazy there is usually a reason. The texting is kind of fishy to me. A responsible adult who is serious about selling their horse is willing to call you to talk about it. When we get an email from a Craigslist horse ad I answer their questions and depending on the email, I send my number back for them to call me. We never deal with text messagers and people who email several times asking for more and more pictures because it seems like 9 times out of 10 it's some teenage kid. I'm sorry that you didn't get him bought, but it may be for the best.

Well I decided to text her again, despite the fact she can text and I have seen her emails... she apparently cannot make calls....
I can call the number for the property, her grand father did answer so I can find out for sure if the colt is hers to sell.
I didn't see a freeze brand on him, but it could be hidden under his mane. AND it may be he was a captive born to a mare that was adopted. Or is half mustang. I have a friend that has an arab/mustang mix, his sire and dam are half siblings, their sire was 3/4 mustang 1/4 QH, he was probably a Cremello, and was registered with the American Albino horse assc. before it went defunct. My friend's cross's parents were both buckskin, and the owner had a health crisis so the "friends" or family just clumped the siblings together and they have produced (probably TOO many) buckskin half arab/mustang crosses... but the parents are each half arab, so although my friends little gelding is technically half arab/mustang with a smidge of QH... he is a grade OR only registerable as a buckskin...
I have seen alot of captive bred mustangs.
Any hoo.. here are some pics of the mustang I am talking about in my original post.

Well.. I can honestly say, I tried, 2x to help this little colt...
I have a friend that could take him and keep him separate till he was gelded. She was willing to even come with me again today.
I texted her that I would be there around 2-2:30 pm CST.
She said yesterday that i could have him for $35, a drop from $175, to $85 then to $35, she "just needs him gone".
I washed my hands of her, then had second thoughts so texted again to try one more time.
She said "I am in a die hard, need of the small amount of money...im 18 with a new baby, moving on my own"
"when would u like to come:"
I said in a few hours, and gave the 2-2:30 time reference...
I said I would have the $35 and said "right?"
She then replies "Is there any way u can mail the rest"
So now she is trying to reneg on the $35 she settled on to get rid of the colt.
I then reiterated that I could be there around 2-2:30...
Then she said " I can't keep waiting" AND this was was at 1:34... so what part of 2to 230 didn't she understand???
And then at 1:48 she says, "35 dollars is nothing I just need him gone".
then at 2:07 she says "what are your living conditions for the horse", Now we have been emailing and texting for over a week. And this is the first time she has asked this.
I attempted to get the horse last friday, then this monday, and now today... never once did she ask this...
So I tell her, nice grassy LARGE paddock with no climb fencing topped with a strand of electric, the front is 3 board fence, and the space between my horse paddock and the
rest of the horses is 5 ft high pipe corral gates. run in shed, stall when needed, my own feed and supplements.
SO then she said "Okay so why is his price an issue"?
WELLL I have only your word that he has his innoculations AND feet done, he isn't gelded, and he is in a small paddock with minis and has a halter and a catch rope
on it... so I am guessing I will have a LOT of work to do... hence the small fee I am willing to pay for him.

SO she decided NOT to wait for me to come OR was never there in the first place as her next email is at 2:37 pm.
"Im in Madison right now I can text when I get home".
I had told her at 2:21 I was on my way.
AND then waited 20 mins for replies.
her excuse was "I was waiting but had to be somewhere by 3".. I texted her at 10:25 this morning.. and suddenly when I am just about enroute (AGAIN).
She suddenly has to be some where.. OR is elsewhere...this is the 2nd time.. AND she was NOT by the colt, she had to already be in town...
sigh..
