Advice for a Newbie! Now in Lockdown!

That's the first I have read about the shavings. I had read the part about increasing the height of the wire to be similar to that of the turner. I attempted to do that but didn't have adequate sized things to heighten it enough. After my third attempt to find things I began to worry about the eggs being out for to long and used what I had. It is not quit high enough but the temp is not bad.

Update! Tomorrow at 9:30 or 9:45 am my eggs will officially be 20 days incubated. Being that I thought my humidity was too high at the beginning I had planned to have it low until pipping. I have changed my mind. I have class this week and am away for 8-9 hours. I worried that if they pip and I'm gone it may be too late. I have increased my humidity to about 60%. I haven't seen any rocking or heard any noises.

Today is day 20. I can hear a peep in there. It's crazy how tiny it sounds compared to the buff babies I hatch last time. It sounds strong though.

My son was so excited about the peeping that after I walked away he saw the light go off and tried to help me by turning up my thermostat. He is only 4 but he doesn't do anything lightly. I have it under control right now but I had to turn it back probably 3/4 of a rotation before I could get it to stop getting warmer. I'm watching it very closely right now.

I am struggling to get my humidity up. It is running about 58%. I feel like there is tons of water in there.

Question.....if a chick is peeping does that mean it has internally pipped?

Yes.

I have an LG with a fan. I definitely think the fan helps to keep the temperature more even (no cool spots and hot spots). The only problem I have had is with the humidity so I put a half pint mason jar with water and a sponge in it as well as filling the reservoirs in the bottom when I take out the turner to set the eggs for hatching.

Well, it's 6:16am and still no pips. I heard the peep about 3am. They are officially due in a few hours!
