Hey all,
I have 11 1-week old chicks (6 Freedom Rangers, 5 assorted dual-purpose layer types). We've been brooding under red lamp but we hate it and they're starting to exhibit some picking behaviors. I just put together a MHP type of brooder, but am having a hard time getting them to go under. Rather, they are standing under the unplugged heat lamp, making a fuss and huddling up. I tried picking them up and placing them there but they are too afraid to stay more than a moment. I did get 1 Freedom Ranger to spend a couple minutes in there. I'm trying to get them used to this heat pad now, before sending them outside. Any tips on coaching week old chicks into a different heat source?
Thanks,
Trevor
