So a little back story, my daughter wanted a little Brahma pullet so we got her. She was 10 weeks old then. It’s been about..... a month? Give or take a week.... when we got her I noticed she didn’t have any feathers under her wings. That’s the only place missing any. She still has what feels/looks like down feathers in plenty of places so found that a little odd as well. Anyways, I was told she was molting and I accepted that because We haven’t had any molting yet here so I’ve never personally seen it. Anyways now I’ve noticed she has scabs in a few places, and it seems they are mainly where her bones are a bit more prominent. Like where they poke up some. Does that make any sense? Still no feather growth there. She’s always felt warmer than the others but I don’t see any reason why she’d have a fever? And especially for this long? The whole flock has been on amoxy-Tyl for the last 6 days as well so I would assume if it was infection causing her fever that would take care of it. ( if it is fever....) ( and flock on amoxy-Tyler because a neighbor had a few chickens wonder to our flock and they looked sickly including fowl pox :(. Vet suggested a broad spectrum antibiotic because a couple days later two of our chickens started runny noses and “coughing”. Annnnnnd our flock started showing fowl pox signs about 3 days ago so that’s another freaking worry. :(.

Sorry this is happening to your hen! Is she getting picked on by other hens, is she picking at herself possibly? Have you checked for parasites/mites/lice? I am assuming she is still eating, drinking, pooping normally, though you said her bones are a little more prominent. Have you checked her poop for worms (could be the cause of the weight loss)? Lots of questions, we are here to help!

Haven’t been able to get her poo checked. The only vet around here who will see chickens charges $60 just for a fecal and at the moment I can’t spare that. I have some equine safeguard I just got the other day ( I use it for our dogs...) saw that it can be used with chickens also but not sure on dosage or how I’d even get them to take it. She was without these feathers when we got her. Previous owner said she was molting. But she eats and drinks just fine and does get picked on a tad here and there ( she’s actually kinda small for what I’d think a Brahma would be at this age....??) but no more than she picks on others. And I’m out there throughout the day and have never seen any signs of or witnessed any plucking by anyone.

Oh and I haven’t seen any mites or lice but I will look closer to see if there’s any hints of them.

Hm ok. As long as she is eating, drinking, and pooping normally, I would think she will pull through. I am not sure of SafeGuard dosage for chickens, but if you search on BYC there should be dosing info. Keep us posted!
