I have, for the past couple months, had some mean chickens in the flock- pulling feathers and eating them. For awhile, EVERYONE was doing it. I gave them some salt in their water, like someone on here suggested, and it helped, a little. I gave them extra protein, it helped, a little. I am going to switch their feed to see if a different diet will help. But in the mean time, I have a chicken who has a bald spot on her chest toward her neck. I secluded her because there was a speck of blood on her. She is doing fine otherwise. What can I do to help her get better quickly?

I know who the bullies are- there are three of them. I secluded the two I suspected at first- the others gained feathers and looked shiny/healthier and the worst peckee's gained some weight. I secluded the third and even the first two bullies gained some feathers. SO I know which three I should do something about. I don't know what to do, I don't want to cull them. :( What I have been doing with them is letting them free range with the others and put them in their own coop at night, which is working fine. Do you know of any ways to stop them from bullying the others?

If there is a wond, put a little neosporin on it, or something similar. Avoid topical meds with "caine" crugs like cetacaint, benzocaine, etc. I keep a bottle of BluKote, which is basically gentian violet, an antiseptic which is supposed to prevent their attackng a wound by masking it, coloring it blue or purple. I'll give you some links I have on feather picking. It's a difficult habit to break, but it has been done.

Thank you so much! I'll look at those links and see if I can get some BluKote

Blukote works wonders my Fuzzy finally was able to grow back her tail/thigh feathers,at the time she was on the low end of the pecking order now it is my Pippy on the low end and my oh my he looks pathetic. He had just 1 tail feather for the longest because he attempts to bully and isn't very successful.
