Our Rouen hens and Call duck hens had an egg roll out of their nest while moving about a few weeks ago. We werent sure how long it had been out so we through it in the incubator just for kicks - well it has now just hatched this morning. The eggs the girls have been sitting on outside are also hatching today and the last few days (we have seen 2 or 3). Can I put this little baby from the incubator in with the mother duck and hope she accepts it (its hers originally and it hatched the same time as the others)? We have two brooders going inside for chicks and ducklings that were hatched earlier. One brooder is a no go for this little one because it houses 4 week old muscovy. The other brooder is my only other option if not the mother duck - this brooder has 2 week old Ameracauna and silver laced wyandottes, and a 2 week old call duckling in it. So my preference would be with the mother duck, if I can even get near her (there are 3 of them fiercely guarding their nests./babies!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is our first time with having a natural hatch going on!!

The baby would do alot better if it were raised by a mama duck. Put the baby under the mama duck at night when she can't see you and see what she does if she rejects it put it in the broader.

Once the duckling was mostly dry, I took it out of the incubator and brought it outside to the duck house. I placed it next too a day old duckling that was cuddled up in straw right outside of the nest box, with one of the momma's heads peeking out watching me. As soon as I set it down, the other duckling cozied right up to it and started nuzzling it. about 10 minutes later, the mama duck started quietly calling to the 2 and gently assisted both back into the nest box! Success!
