Hello all!

Iv just bought a sultan chick, she's 8 weeks old and is the same age as our 3 other chicks.
A leghorn, Alho and Pekin (Cockeral)
The farm where I bought her from said to put her straight in with the others....so I did.
But they are all attacking her, especially the Cockeral!
What do I do??? Iv taken her out and locked her in the best box, but soon enough the others will want to go up to bed come dusk!! Shall I take her out of the nest box and put her back in once all the others are asleep? Or do I need to separate her for longer??
I don't think I actually have anywhere else to put her!

Try putting her in a carrier crate (like that for cats) for the night. In the morning you can make a partition so they can see one another and get use to one another without being able to interact. If they start to calm down you can try introduction again.

Best of luck!

I use a large dog crate to let my chickens be in safe proximity to the others. I add food and water and then wait for the others to be bored with the newcomers (or in my current case the head hen is the one in solitary because she is the only one bent on killing the 4 month old cockerel so she gets the small cage to try to let her get used to him since everyone else can tolerate him).

Iv seperated them, we have an 2 floor rabbit hutch with a big run attached, Iv put a box in with a door full of hay for her to sleep in down stairs and closed the door so the others can't get at her, so they can still see each other but not have contact. Tomorrow night I'll try putting her in with them at night and see how we go!

Thanks for all your help! I didn't realise even chicks this young can be so aggressive!

I would wait more than just one day to be honest, let them have plenty of time to get used to the sight of each other. Also in the future it is good practice to keep them completely separate for at least a month to be sure that the newcomer is entirely healthy before exposing yours to them.

Ok will do that and actually the Pekin Cockeral who is the worse one for attacking her is hopefully going to his new home on a farm come Sunday, the other 2 hens aren't as bad so fingers crossed once he's gone they'll all get along a lot better!

Here's hoping for you, I am ready to rehome my little agressor too, grrrrr.

We had a Pekin rooster who attacked us all the time. But then we got rid of him and when he got to the new farm he became their favorite pet, loving to be petted and held. Silly bird.

Hahaha really!! He is my favourite but it's not fair on the neighbours or then hens with his bossy ways! He's still quite tame and likes a stroke. But I can imagine that changing, my sister had a Pekin Rooster from day one of hatching, absolutely adorable, loved cuddles and just wanted to be held all the time. Then one morning she got up when to see him and he had changed into a right bugger! She had to tackle him with a broom to get to her car and he just attacked everyone, even the kids...it was hilarious to watch...something so small attacking something so big

but sadly a few months later a fox got him :((

We're having problems! Still!!

After speaking with the chicken farm where we got our sultan chick from on Friday they advised us seeing as it was on its own whilst we try get the others used to her to get another chick so she's not on her own. So we went and got a cream legbar chick the same age and they told us to put her in with the sultan chick. So we did.
The sultan chick was attacking it yesterday evening but once it was dark they snuggled up together in the box....but this morning the sultan is still viciously attacking the legbar!! So Iv taken the sultan out and put her on her own in a different coop!

What's going on!??? I'm confused?! Why aren't any of them getting along? I'm waiting for the chicken farm to get back to me because I don't have the space to keep them all seperate!
Her husband told me the sultan was a hen when I bought her, his wife yesterday told me they can't tell the sex so it could be a cock, but said they will refund us if it does turn out to be one.

What do I do????
