I’m a third grade teacher hatching chickens in the classroom. I locked down the incubator yesterday. I went in today to see if there were any early hatchers. When I got there, there were three who had already hatched out and one hatched out while I was there. There was also one who was creating a hole in its egg and peeping. He had not tried to zip yet. When I went back this evening, there were five chickens and the one with the hole in the egg was not moving or making any noise anymore. There was also a lot of liquid around the egg. Can you tell me if this one is stuck or will not hatch? I thought that the liquid was odd. I hatched chickens last year and had one make a hole to hatch but no liquid came out. Thank you for the help! Hoping he is just resting and will hatch out tonight or tomorrow!

It looks as though it may have pipped below the air cell, hit a blood vessel, and hemorrhaged. Also, the yolk is a sure indicator that the chick is no longer viable and should be removed.
