Hi all!
Five weeks ago I got three ex battery hens. Unfortunately one of the hens died a couple of weeks ago leaving just two.
One of the girls has been a bully from day one, hogging the food and basically letting the others know she’s in charge! Tonight she’s had a go at the other chicken and drawn blood :(
They have free range of my large back garden by day and plenty of room to get away from one another.
I have been able to temporarily segregate them tonight and I can segregate during the day tomorrow, but overnight is going to become a problem and I’m unsure what to do with there only being two of them!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated ☺
thanks!

If you had a larger flock, I would say to separate the bully since she would lose her status after a few days. I would also separate the one being bullied so she can recover. If the other han if you had a larger flock, I would say to separate the bully since she would lose her status after a few days. I would also separate the one being bullied so she can recover. If you had other hens they would likely pick on the injured one a lot more than usual because she was bleeding. Chickens are curious and they do hunt stuff so blood will interest them. The best thing to do I think is to separate them so she doesn’t get hurt more in the Longrun I would suggest to get more chickens, two is not a great number, three or more is better. Do you have some kind of spare coop that you can put them in? Try to have two food bowls so they can both eat. She’s more likely to be bullied when they are moving about or eating or if they are together on a perch. If you can try to put them on opposite sides of the coop.

Thanks, I have separated them for now. Unfortunately due to the current situation I can’t get another at the moment! I don’t have a spare coop so I’ll have to make do for now and reintroduce them slowly in a few days.

How many feeders are available? If the bully is really being a food hog, 2 or even 3 feed sources with an obstacle in the way (to block line of sight from one station to the next) may help give the lower bird a chance to eat in peace.
