Hi all!

I am so excited to have my first ever chicks and to have found this wonderful forum. I am hoping that someone with expertise will be able to offer me some advice.

One of my two Salmon Faverolles has not been doing well the past few days. She was doing great when we first got her, eating, drinking and doing all of the activities the others were doing. A few days ago, I noticed that she didn't seem to be growing. At first I thought that maybe the other Salmon Faverolle was a roster and just getting bigger. However, after observing her, I noticed that she didn't seem to be eating or drinking at all so I realized that it was she that was not growing (thriving).

Over the past two days I have been feeding her and giving her water with an eyedropper. She takes it well although she is not trying to get at it on her own. When she is in the brooder, she is very aggressive in "burrowing" under the other chicks (I'm assuming for warmth). The temperature is at 95 and all of the other chicks seem comfortable. She's peeps constantly if she is not sleeping. She will go wherever the other chicks are and press up against them, but I have not seen her eat or drink anything at all.

At this point she is easily half of the size of her "twin" and the bantams are almost catching up with her. I really don't know if she has grown at all.

I adore this sweet little girls and of course would love for her to get through this and live. However, I do not want to be inhumane and keep her alive if she should be let go. I have been feeding her for two days now and although she doesn't seem to be getting worse, I don't think she is getting any better at all.

I guess that I am wondering if anyone has had a chick like this for this many days that has pulled through. Am I just prolonging her life and is she suffering because of it? I am happy to continue to hand feed her and help her get through this. I just don't want her to suffer because of me. I figure that it has probably been at least 3 days since she has eaten on her own.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Is thete any esy you can seperate her so you can keep a closer eye on her. Look at her vent and make sure she doesn't have pasty butt, poop plugging her vent. If she will eat and drink by hand feeding her I would continue. I would try to give her some cooked yolk and some electrolytes. Save a chick, gatorade, sugar water.

BonRae67 Thank you for answering. She is in the house so I am watching her closely. I hate to separate her from the other chicks because she seems to take a lot of comfort from "cuddling" in with them. Maybe this is the wrong approach?

She does not have pasty butt and I have seen her poop a few times. Once a little yellow and watering. Once mostly watery and once close to normal. (I never thought that I would be interested in how chicken poo looked.)

I am giving her electrolytes. I can't get her to eat the egg yolks. I'm not really sure how she's even doing as well as she is.....

You are doing great with her. Sometimes we don't know why they are sick. Keep up the good work. She knows you love her.

Sadly, she did not make it. I tried my best and held her tonight as she passed away. So very sad. I wish I could have done something for her...... :(
