Advice needed on changing incubator

It will be just fine to transfer the eggs to their sides. If you do not have an egg turner in your new Brinsea, of course you do know that you'll have to turn the eggs 3 times a day by hand. I'd recommend putting an "x" on one side and an "O" on the other so you know if they have been turned or not. Just make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before handling the eggs, and make sure your Brinsea is at proper stable operating temperature before you move the eggs in. Hope you have a successful hatch! :)

Yes I have no problem with the whole turning commitment since im self employed and its nice to get away from the desk to turn the eggs :) So the turn is basically just an 180 degree turn? I like the idea of putting the X and O on the eggs, im guessing its OK to write on the eggs then..

Also thankyou very much Jr and Egghead for the very usefull information

It's ok to write on the eggs with a pencil. If you put an X on one side and an O on the other, you simply flip the egg from the X side to the O side 3 times per day--I usually do it at 8 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm. I enjoy turning the eggs also! :)

Sounds good to me. Because they are sat currently upright I am turning them at a 45 degree angle from left to right, im guessing thats how its supposed to be done in that position? Regardless with a bit of luck they will be in their new Brinsea by tommorow

Hi Southernhusky,

thanks for your reply. So you think that going from being stood up to on their side should do them little harm at this stage then? Also whats the technique with manual turning with eggs lying on their sides?

Thanks again!

They should be fine, If anything the air cells(at wider end) will have been given more time to stabilize. With shipped eggs its not recommend to turn them at all the first week of incubation and keep them pointy end down. Where did you buy the eggs? Have you candled yet? Definitely make sure to have new incubator up and running and steady temps before moving the eggs an candle then if you havent yet.

With my 21 eggs I only ended up with 1 odd shaped air cell and they were sat on their ide a few days, driven 30 miles as well as manually turned on sides for several days. Like they said wash hands thoroughly and you pretty much just roll them around, mark X one side and Os on other, you dont want the eggs to sit on the same side for more than 1 night in a row.

This was a long but earlier video I watch, partway through you can see him rolling aka turning the egg.

If you havent yet please read https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101
A bit long but good info, and halfway down there is a image of air cell and about how big it should be at what days.

And this post I found today with EXCELLENT pictures of candled eggs.

I purchased the eggs from a farm in Northen Ireland via eBay, they are Silkie eggs. I have not candled yet because they have only been incubating since wednesday and I thought id wait 7 days. I did leave them for 24 hours pointy end down before starting.

I will certainly make sure that new incubator has been running smoothly before I transfer anything across!

Thanks very much for the links, Ill set and go through them now!!
