Advice needed please. sick with guilt over chicken's death.

When we take on the care of an animal....we carry that responsibility around with us in our heads and in our hearts....we change our schedules, lifestyle, and divert funds that we could use in other ways.....all to see to the quality of life of our animals. I am sure you gave your girl a comfortable life, and provided for her in every way you could. She was special....and you will always remember her. We are glad you came here to share this story....because here there are so many who will empathize due to their own experiences. We are sorry for your loss....and glad to have you here.

I have a hen who randomly lays eggs similar to that one when she's feeling stressed. Crows hanging around the coop could cause stress. Chickens are small and as small animals, they live in a delicate balance between OK and not-OK. They don't show it when they're not-OK so it's sometimes hard to know that something's wrong. Don't blame yourself for things outside your control. Cry, yes, and then realize that you did your best.

So sorry for your loss :( you should not at all blame yourself. You obviously took great care of her and loved her very much.. i am still learning about chickens.. but ive noticed they dont always tell you when they dont feel well... and there are apparently so many reasons why a hen might stop laying. You didnt know... dont blame yourself. You did your absolute best and it sounds like you gave her a really great life.
