has anyone got any idea what could be wrong with one of my chickens and a cockeral, both have yellowy/white bits in a patch about 2cm long down one side of their thoats the cockerals breath smells fishy, the hens breaths just smells rotten!
Originally these two came to me as part of a group of fifteen very neglected hens and cockerals, all had very bad scaley leg, mites, lice & worms, all made a very good recovery and were re-homed except these two who are still undergoing treatment since august 09! and now I don't know what to do for them for the best, their treatment so far has been: Baytril antibiotics injected everyday for five days, Iodine painted onto the substance in the troats, followed by a coarse of oral Baytril twice a day for seven days, left awhile with no improvement the vet then recommended antibiotic eyedrop directly onto substance in throat and anti fungal cream rubbed in twice a day (lucky they're friendly!) still no improvment. About a week ago they finished another coarse of baytril this time twice a day for ten days still nothing, can anyone please shed some light on what this might be as I don't think my vet has a clue.

These two were the only ones with a throat infection, the cockerals legs were so bad with the scaley leg mite that they had become infected, under the crusts the legs were weeping a yellow discharge, his legs seem fine now. Please help.

Is it inside their throats or just on the skin? If it's inside, maybe you could try cayenne pepper in the feed & it might kill of whatever is causing it.

I hope someone else comes along & offers some advice..it sounds very strange.

Sounds like the wet form of fowl pox. I'm not sure if this is a fungal disease, but if so, the antibiotic could be making things worse! I'll try and find some info for you.
Okay here is a thread with some good info and photos:

Sounds like it is a virus, kind of like herpes. I don't think the antibiotic can help. Make sure their diet is super healthy! No treats unless they are healthy! and thank you for taking on these poor guys, they are so lucky to have such a caring owner.
