Advice on Brooding area for chicks

I have a "pump house" right outside my house that houses a pump to the corrals and is insulated and has no windows and regular drywall. There is about an 8 x 8 x 8ft area inside. Where the light is there is a heat lamp. I have ordered 4 ducks and 2 geese for April. My question is. If I just have the heatlamp on will my babies be ok? The heat lamp will not be directly on them. It will be draft free in there. Also should I put a regular heat lamp with the chord or should I put an area heater since it is such a small space? What do you guys think? Do they really need 90 degrees in there?

I would put a lamp facing down directly in the brooder to one side. That way if they get cold they can go under it and if they get hot they should have an area where they can get away from it. I can't tell you about the temp cause I've never used a theremometer in my brooders. I just let them tell me what is what!!

Thanks, I have been looking up info and that it what it says as well. Its just a bit suprising that they need so much heat.
