advice on choosing a breed for extreme climates

Realize that you do not have to choose ONE breed. A mix of breeds will work just fine. Also, while single combs are not as good for extreme cold, they are very good for extreme heat--the comb is one way for the bird to cool off.
 
No matter what breeds you get the keys to avoiding frostbite are preventing drafts, but having good enough ventilation to keep moisture down. Sounds contradictory I know. We have very harsh winters here, and having an insulated coop is really nescessary.
