I don’t think we’re going to put a female in with him, he would over mate her for sure. I’m going to give it a week or two and let the girls heal and then we’ll reevaluate! I think that’s what we’ll have to do for free range time! We may let everyone out to free range, and then let him out into the whole enclosure with fresh pool water so he can bathe and fly up on his perch for a little. We’ll have to play it by ear, I feel so bad for him, but I feel worse for the girls. My poor mallard who is teeny tiny compared to him seems to be one of his favorites right now and she’s all bald on the back of her head.

I was afraid of that too last year but its what made it better for everyone including the duck that went in with my drake. My drake always was very close to the duck I put in with him. Best buddies and it was just what they needed. They both ended up very happy. I know it might not work for everyone but it did for my flock.

For now he’s going to hang out alone, but maybe they will end up wanting to be together. Khaleesi did sleep inside the coop next to him in drake jail for most of today, but I think she liked that they just slept and he couldn’t get to her but he was still near by. One of my other girls accidentally flew into his area and she now has a bloody raw neck.

you should have seen my 6 girls last year. Bloody necks covered in blu-kote. I did great putting it on them until the last girl. I lost control and it is still a purple mess inside one of the pens! My hands were purple for a week!
