Advice on getting more ducks (or not).

If you aren’t going to buy sexed ducklings from a hatchery, go to TSC on the first day they have ducklings. Ask what day they are going to arrive. And pick the absolute smallest ones you can find. They are more likely to be females. The larger ones in the bin are almost always males.[/QUOTE
When I got my first two, I picked out the smallest duckling in the bunch. Then, the sales boy grabbed a larger one and stuck it in the box. The little one turned out to be my biggest drake, the other my best girl!
You might look for a local hatchery or try hatching eggs since the expense is in shipping.

I'm still debating either way on if I can handle the noise level of a ton more ducks. I live in the city and I really don't want my neighbors complaining! Are the females THAT much louder? I swear my boys make sooo much noise sometimes lol especially when I let them out in the morning or feed them! They are a hoot.
My boys talk nonstop. My girls only when someone is bothering them (like the dog) or when they see me coming with food. But, yes, they are louder! Still, I live in a subdivision and my neighbors are ok with it. They find the ducks entertaining!

Yeah, when my windows are open I can hear them carrying on outside and it doesn't bother me at all, but I guess I can't speak for everyone! But I know the neighbors must hear them occasionally if I can, and no complaints yet. Their run is right up against my 6' privacy fence that borders their lawn lol. I can't imagine anyone being too upset- especially when there are other, louder sounds in the city like cars driving by, etc. Or my neighbors across the street that blare music all night.... surely if no one has called the cops on them, they won't on my ducks :fl

Hello...I would get 4 more Ducklings and pick the more slight ones with a feminine look. Not the lug heads.
Ducks don't breed for life. They breed for a season. Drakes take no part in raising Ducklings either.
Always have a plan B in place if things get crazy during breeding season...

I'm going to try! Went back to TSC today again to see if they'd arrived yet. Nope. Also asked a different lady if they knew what day and she said no it's random and they never know until the day of. Sigh. Anyway- hopefully I'll see them at some point this week.
