Advice on introducing bird dogs to baby chicks

Training is excellent but there is always a certain amount of natural instinct that even training will miss every now and again. Use caution...it is not a situation I would leave unsupervised.

Good luck.

I sure wouldn't with baby chicks. Adult chickens, it depends.

Dogs can be very different even within the same breed. Our German Short Hair is very submissive and knows she's below everything in the pecking order, cats, chickens and even the gerbil when we had it. She runs away from any chicken approaching her.

my beagle was exposed from the start, she could see them thru the clear box they were brooding in. Maybe its because shes a she but when one flew out I found it with her and she was licking it like a new puppy. She still has a interest in them and when they were ranging she would try to herd them or keep them on the side of the yard. But with all the stories on here about dogs killing chickens I wouldnt leave her alone with them no matter how loving she is. My beagle was given up to the shelter because she wouldnt hunt but that doesnt say she couldnt do harm just playing or if the rooster comes at her. She has backed him down but if he hurt her nature says hurt back. Its great to see them protecting the chickens just be very careful not to leave them alone.
