So, Sunday I go out to collect eggs. Head to the Silkie Coop, and there lies my little gray silkie, broody as can be :wee. I marked 4 little silkie eggs and putt hem under her, and prepared her broody coop. Monday, I arrived at the silkie coop, and my little white silkie had gone broody. Today, I go out, my Black silkie hen has gone broody. She is the lowest on the pecking order. I only have 4 hens and 2 silkie roosters. I don't want to leave just one hen in with them, but I only have 4 broody coops and all of them are occupied. Is it possible to have the black silkie, who is the most submissive one, bunk with the splash who hasn't yet gone broody? (If things keep going the way they are, pretty sure she will :jumpy) My gray has 4 silkie eggs. For the other 2, I want to put some of my English Orpington and Wyandotte eggs under them. My Jubilee eggs are Large, my Splash eggs are XL - Jumbo, and my Wyandotte's are Medium. How many of each do you think could fit?

Thanks!

Silkies are know to be a breed of “broodiness” period! But last spring I got 7 hens of various breeds that went broody left and right from ages 7 months old to 3 yr olds for the first time. So maybe their hormones lined up in some weird way to go in sync.

Anything is possible. Sometimes other birds around broodies are fine, sometimes it's not.

Depends on the size of the broody, so however many she can fully cover...you'll have to use your judgement.

Sounds like you may need more broody coops.
