Hi there! I'm hoping to gain some help on one of my turkeys. I have a white male who I was examining today, which I do often to make sure everything is okay, when I came across an abscess looking infection. It was among his tail feathers and was a large bump with what looked to be some sort of bright yellow object poking out. I touched it and found it was extremely wet with pus, the pus didn't smell and the bump wasn't red but I am still very worried, these are my first turkeys and I love them, it doesn't seem to bother him too much but is there any advice I could get on this? Thank you so much :)

I'm wondering if you might possibly be referring to his preen gland. It is a conical shaped "nipple" just in front of the tail which secretes oil to preen into the feathers to keep them waterproof and in good condition. If you do some research on preen gland, that should confirm for you if that's what it is....All birds have them but some are more prominent than others....Apologies if I'm off the mark and you are aware of what preen glands are...
