Advice on rat poisons

Hello I'm new here! In yrs past, I used a rat poison that was inert after being metabolized by the rats. If my dog ate a dead rat it would not harm him. Can anyone tell me the name of the chemical or a brand name? Rats ate a 4 foot tomato plant last night. Got to getem'! Thank you in advance.
