I had gotten six chickens - four buff orpington and two rock barred - about six weeks ago. This morning, I went out to check on them and there was only ONE orpington left

I think a fox got the other five last night. I am heart broken, but I am still hoping to have a decent supply of eggs in the fall. My local feed store will be getting some buckeye's in next week, and I am thinking about getting three of them, and then a couple of the buff orpington's again next fall.

Don't worry, we WILL be reinforcing the coop, and keeping the remaining chicken in a box in our shed at night in the meantime.

My questions are . . . .

1. Will my one buff left be ok or will she be too lonely?

2. When can I put the buckeye's in with the one remaining orp?

3. Does anyone have any experiences for/against buckeyes?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

oh yeah, they will also be getting some frizzles, I know those are mostly just for looks, but I wouldn't mind getting one if they are at least decent layers, any advice?
