Hi I am new to keeping chickens and my daughter hatched 4 chicks during the lockdown in the UK! They are just over 4 weeks old. I will try and attach photos. One of them, the last to hatch has been pecked round the neck by the others. We separated them and it is doing better. Hoping that is enough. We have followed some advice from the site to keep them entertained but would welcome any suggestions please.
Also wondering if anyone with more experience can tell me the sex of the chicks from the photos attached.
I have named the photos as per the names of the chicks which are odd!! They are called Oink, 12, Chow Mein and Haddock. Haddock is the one who is being picked on

It’s hard to tell the gender while they are still young. The first few signs that it may be rooster are tail feathers, crowing and or growing noticeably faster then the others aka the hens. It’s different depending on the breed. I had two chicks that I knew were females based on their pattern and colors.

The white frizzle not being picked on is a cockerel. It's too early for the others.
How much space do you have in your brooder? Crowding can make them pick on each other.
Thanks. They have stopped pecking the chick since started with a perch and a lettuce hanging for them to peck at. Put a small piece of soil and grass in but will put larger in tomorrow. They love the dry autumn leaves

I read an article about sexing chicks once, but its when they are about a week old. It said hens will have pointed little butts and roosters rounded little butts. It said hens get their tail feathers first. Its been very accurate for me. I have black australorps and jersey giants. Never tried it with other breeds.
