Advice on treating this chicks eye

Are you seeing mosquitoes out now? They can spread fowl pox to your chicks, and those can have nasty scabs around the face and eyes. The latest out of focus picture looks a bit like that. Pox is a virus, but it can set up a secondary bacterial infection around the eye.

That’s the strange thing, no I don’t see any misquotoes at all!
we just had a light freeze about 2 weeks ago, and it’s actually quite nice out now.
one of my older hens now has the eye issue. She is over a year old, and has been vaccinated for fowl pox. So I am stumped!
I thought it could be fowl pox with that wart like thing on the buff chick, but the older hen with the vaccine doesn’t make sense.
I am running out of separation areas.
i will say this is very frustrating at the very least!

Ok here are my newest chicks that I separated this evening!
the one with the circle is the wart like thing starting.

No the nostril is clear, and yes you were right there was pus, however I was not able to get all of it out.
how do these people I see on these videos just magically pop these plugs out without popping the whole eyeball out. I feel so bad for this chick, I was putting her through hell as I was trying to get the rest of the stuff out. After awhile I thought enough is enough. It was just stuck to the lower inside eyelid. And not willing to just come out. I will try again today.

Maybe you could try using a q-tip to apply a more concentrated and precise pressure in the right spots? I’ve never dealt with anything like this (touch wood) so just an idea.

I know, I agree about the fowl pox looking Warts. However what about the eyes? I guess It is possible to have both at one time. Fowl pox and possibly a respiratory issue?
strange thing is it’s been so nice here lately, without mosquitoes.
The adults have all been vaccinated, but the chicks have not. I usually don’t vaccinate the chicks till at least 6 weeks old, and they are not yet there.
I guess I will be ordering the vaccine early this year.

Can you tell me more about the secondary infection around the eye?
I have never dealt with this before. So it is possible to just have fowl pox, yet it could look like some serious respiratory issue spreading within the flock?
just fyi I appreciate all the help from everyone on this forum!1

You may just be dealing with fowl pox, or the eye could be infected. If you want to treat the chick with antibiotics, that is fine. Don’t panic. I would use some Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin/triple antibiotic ointment in the eye twice a day. Don’t disturb scabs. Fowl pox goes away in a month or so.

Ok, just to be sure I am having our vet pull blood from about 7-8 of the chicks tomorrow, then sending the serum from it to A&M lab to test it for IBV and MS/MG. Unfortunately there is no test for Fowl pox, so at least I can figure out 9f it’s either of the first 2.
I sent pics of the chicks to the Dr at A&M and he suggested taking this route.
‘so we shall see!
