yep one more vote for the chicks. as you raise them they'll bond with you and you'll have the satisfaction of seeing them develop.
i want to weigh in too for the Ameraucanas. We have two, they are sweet and great chickens, we call them the Bearded Ladies. Very attractive feather patterns and a great variety of colors among individuals. They're gonna start laying any day now and i am really looking forward to collecting some blue/green eggs ! we have a Buff Orpington, she's nice too...get a few kinds.
do you have a feed store nearby that sells chicks? cause the online ones have minimums, and some limitations on where they can ship babies based on the weather.
