okay hello.
i have a hen who is about 6 weeks old and i went and checked on them. shes currently in the coop with 5 others same age.
and 4 adult laying hens.
the 6 weeks olds are in a cage that fits nicely in the coop.
theres also still the heat lamp on for them.
so i saw blood in the cage.
i saw blood on her. shes yellow (guess she will be turning white when she gets older)
i looked closer and took her out to examine her.
her nail is missing. dont know what happend.
maybe it got snagged and she pulled hard?
i dont feel that any pecking has occured .
they have been with the bigger girls for about a week now.
the bigger hens do not have access to the babies. the cage they have has extra wire wrapped around it.
i took her in.. and cleaned her wound.
i only have human anitseptic.
should i put a bit on it?
okay hopefully i supplied enough information.
oh and one more thing, will the nail grow back?

thanks
andrea

thanks,
would the chicken peck it?
i just went outside to check on her.
i am happy to say she was on a roost stick thats in their cage.
she appears okay.
thanks for the response.

andrea-

I think she will probably be fine as long as she is not pecking at it. If she is you can put some blue kote on it.

that happened to my chick once.. it didn't grow back. but she only has like, one toenail and she's doing fine and she's about 4 years old.
