Hi everyone!!! I have recently had a rooster to show up at my house. I believe he is a Long Island Red??? I practically live in the woods and would love any advice about caring and protection. We have bonded. His name is Rooster Cogburn. He comes to me when I call him. He crows and dances for me. He is smart and knows the doorway of my house. He waits for me to come outside. He roosts on top of my trailer above my doorway (lol!!!). I have sprinkled epsom salt around my deck to hopefully keep raccoons away. I love him! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you!!!

If you plan on keeping him, he will need some kind of house for shelter and protection and a hen or two.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Cogburn is a very handsome mixed breed.
He has scaly leg mites so you should start treating him for that. Smear a coat of Vaseline on his feet and legs pushing it up under the scales. Continue doing that as it wears off. It will take time for his scales to return to normal.
To really keep him safe from predators he needs a well ventilated predator proof coop.

Hey from the UK! Welcome to BYC it's lovely to have you here 😀 lots of useful knowledge and advice on here and everyone trys to assist with any questions or queries. As already been said if he staying he will need shelter at nite against all elements ( predators weather etc) chicken feed and fresh water etc. Also yes he has scaley mites on legs and feet use vaseline like suggested :)
