Baldy, my golden comet has a huge lump, abcess type thing on her breast. She is eating and running around and laying daily. She has been whining a lot lately, but that's it. A little history... I got her from my sister who had too many chickens, she is about 1 year old and was attacked and partially plucked by my sister's dog. Since we have had her she has gained weight and been doing great, her feathers are growing back, but her belly has a bald strip that is pretty red and dry and now I found this abcess. I really like her and want to help her! The other chickens don't seem to be bothering her, although she is definitely the boss lady!
Any advice would be great! I will call my vet tomorrow, not sure if they are open though, due to the holiday weekend. Thanks for reading my ramble.

If it is on your right (her left) side of her breast, then that is her crop, and it is completely normal. It might be more obvious to you right now because she's missing feathers. If her crop doesn't shrink at night when she's not eating, then that's a cause for concern, but mostly likely, you're noticing her when she's been eating and having a good meal. Also, if she had a hard time where she was before, she might be really shoveling it in, so the crop might be more full than your other girls.

Thank you, I will check her in the morning and try to get a picture. There's not too much to photograph though, just a big mushy lump with a little bit of red. I'll try. I'm really hoping it's her crop now! I'm obviously very new to all this chicken stuff!
