hi
my chick hatched a day late today nearly 4 hours ago. it is panting still in the incubator. does it need to move to the brooder and be offered a drink, or is panting normal? the temp is 37.7 approx and humidity fluctuates between about 63 and 75. the chick is still very unsteady on its feet but is cheeping and slowly fluffing up.

chick 2 is on it's way i hope to keep this little guy company...

Panting in all chickens, chicks and adults alike is an indication they are too hot. The trouble is opening the incubator may doom the one emerging. Most people will yell at me for this suggestion but perhaps try dopping the temp a degree.
They're generating some of their own heat at this point.

hi
my humidity was measuring fine but there isn't any condensation which if there was the chick could drink off the window. so i have added water to the incubator and thrown in a damp paper towel at one end . my humidity dropped to 52 for less than a minute and is now back up to 67.

i will keep an eye on the chick who seems tired but otherwise slowly getting stronger.

still panting not continuously but every few mins....
