I have a 2 year old pekin cock, i know he as scaley leg mites and have been treating him, Thursday of last week i noticed him limping abit on his left leg, i bathed his leg and applied the leg treatment again, i noticed a lump on his leg and at first thought Bumble foot, i look him the vet on Saturday vet thinks its down to the mites and has an infection, but worried about how he is not using his leg, they gave him a jab for the mites and antibiotics, he is going back the vet on saturday but i am worried as he seems to be getting worse and not using the leg at all, i cant see i t being broke as he as just been in his pen.

Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks

Could you post a video of him on youtube then link the video here?
Infection can cause pain which will make him not want to use the leg??
Could be he is getting a disease that is causing him to lose the use of his legs too??

False alarm he his still with us!! my dad went this morning and thought he died!! x

Wouldnt the vet have said if he thought it was mereks when i took him on saturday?

He is pritty much not moving at the minute, i have an earlier video of how it started? i wont see him now until the weekend but i can ask my mum to try get a vid when she gives him his tablet x

If you don't have a video, photos of the legs may be helpful.

Since he has been under vet care, it would be best to contact them again and relay your concerns that he is declining and needs to be seen sooner if possible. The vet advised this was Scaly Leg Mites with infection(?) - it sounds like infection has set in making it difficult for him to recover.

Do the best you can to keep him hydrated, poultry vitamins may help give a boost, but consulting the vet again is your best option. Ask if the legs need to be soaked in something like epsom salts, Chlorhexidine (Novalsan) or Betadine to help with swelling and infection.

Marek's is a possibility, but with his age and the information you have given us, I lean toward severe infection as being the cause of him not doing well.
Keep us posted.
