I believe I have a male African goose that just started to take up in my back yard around my pond. He has been here for about 3 weeks now and has became quit comfortable around me. My question is why does he nip at me, he don't necessarily bite but he will nip at me but when I walk away he follows me and hobos. Why is this

Maybe it is similar to dogs licking your hand rather than biting it.
Keep feeding him and keep him as a GREAT PET. Maybe he will bring others along. I wish I lived in area with a pond and open space. I would have more than my 6 pet chickens,
WISHING YOU BEST........:thumbsup

He may be wanting you as his mate. Ganders are getting into their mating hormones this time of year, you might want to consider getting him a mate.

He is gorgeous!

This is how geese and ducks explore. They don't have hands like we do so they use their bill to explore around them. They can also do it when they like you. They are like love nibbles; not hard or pinching the skin but you can feel it. Your new boy is beautiful!

It might be how they explore but if you've ever been bitten by a goose? I have a gander who is going into breeding phase for his 11th year and nibbling can turn into a bite in a sec. I don't let my geese nibble on me.
