I have a 7 month old African goose and she will not stand up , loosing feathers, not eating or drinking - her condition is becoming worse. She used to come up and greet me along with her mate. I don not know what happen to her . What can I do for her that way I do not lose her, I have become very fond of these two geese.

Thanks

How long has this been going on? what do you feed them? do they graze? could she have gotten into something toxic, plants chemicals, hardware disease? Just general info would be helpful.

I BUY THE CHICKEN(POULTRY) FEED AT A RANCH STORE ,THEN ADD CHICKEN DEVELOPER TO IT . THEY ARE ALLOW TO ROAM THE BACK YARD AND EAT GRASS AND WEEDS. I STARTED TO NOTICE HER YESTERDAY , THEN THIS MORNING WHEN I WENT OUT TO FEED THEM SHE WOULD NOT GET UP AND WHEN I PICKED HER UP FEATHERS WERE FALLING OUT ,TRIED TO GIVE HER WATER AND FOOD AND SHE TURNS HER HEAD , SHE IS GETTING THIN . WHAT CAN I DO FOR HER . HAVE SEPERATED HER FROM THE MALE ,SHE STILL TRYS TO SPEAK VERY WEAK , I HAVE EXAMINE HER - DID NOT NOTICED ANYTHING

Feathers falling out sounds like a toxin of some kind. at 7 months with feathers falling out I don't think molt. I would do a flush on her. is she able to hold her head up? you may have to force her to drink and it's very easy to get fluid into their lungs so you may have to think about vet care. here is the link to the flushes and they have to be carried out to the T...

Another thing you could try is some activated charcoal. I'd call around and ask any pharmacys in your area if they have it. For a goose, 3 capsules or tablets crushed or opened and added to a small amount of water to make a slurry. Using a syringe get as much into her as you possibly can. Right side of throat and as far back as you can missing the trachea, which is at the base of the tounge.

The feed is something to check first. Aflatoxin poisonings will cause feather loss, but so can some others. Need more info about the feed. Also, has the yard been treated with any kind of chemicals, weed killer, fertilizer? Anything? How about neighbors?

As Miss Lydia said, flush first but only once and do not leave the water with her for as long as most say. Sounds to me as if she has cleaned herself out enough right now. Try and find the charcoal as soon as possible. If it is some kind of poisoning, this could be the saving of her. Next, she needs to be in a warm, dim, quiet place away from the others for a while. Extreme aflatoxin poisonings and a lot of the chemical ones are neurological and noises and light make it harder for the system to fight the affects. Clean, cold water will help her if she decides to drink. You can also give her some water, again with the syringe or by dripping it onto her bill. As scary as this is, you have to remain calm, seriously. She is going to be scared and taking her cues from you. Quiet talking and singing help them and you as well.

Do you heat with wood? If you have any wood ash left over from the winter and it has hardwood clinkers left in it, you could try crushing some of those and doing the same as the pills. Please, make sure of what you burned last year. Also...this is not an instead of the purchased activated charcoal...rather it is until you can find the right stuff. Good luck and please keep this updated.

I have tried the flush she just goes backwards and falls down I put her a dog kennel with blanket over it by when should I see an improvement

Have you called a vet about you goose? Some time's it is necessary to help get your goose through this. The feed you should give is either game bird or waterfowl feed. It is created for the need of geese or any waterfowl or game birds. Chicken feed does not have the same ingredients in it as the waterfowl feed because geese have different needs than chickens do!
They also need to graze because that it their main food substance.
Also if someone puts weed and feed for the lawn down it is poisonous to all birds. It goes down to the roots and is in the ground as well as the grass absorbs it. I sure hope you can pull her around Good Luck.....
