African vs Chinese

Hi All,

I'm looking for a bit of advice from geese aficionados.

I bought a beautiful pair of young (4 months) geese and was told they were Africans. I'm beginning to question the identification of these birds and am thinking they might be Chinese.

Are there any obvious physical differences that you can definitely see to determine which breed they might be?

I love them just the same and they are extremely friendly, but would like to have a more definite understanding of what breed I actually bought.

can you post pictures? chinese have more of a thinner taller swanish look and africans ar wider and shorter i beleive but if i were you i would wait for someone on here that actually have geese unlike me...

Thanks. These geese do have more of a swan-like neck but they are young and I don't have a point of reference to compare.
I'm hoping someone will come along with some physical difference that you and I have missed!

Im not sure but they look alot like my pair of brown chinese who are about a month older but then now that I look at the pics of yours again I think that the necks of yours are thicker. Heres a pic though to compare

I would say that they are probably brown Chinese. But they could be Africans because I thought I saw a small dewlap forming on one of them...

I think they look like commercial run Africans. Chinas are a lot skinnier necked. There are two versions of Africans. One a commercial that is smaller, with less dewlap and the other the giants with large dewlap. I have both. We wanted the giant ones and bought a pair and they never got the size they were supposed to. That's when I did some research on them and found out that the hatchery commercial run ones are smaller and without the features of the Giant ones.
