I live in northern-central California and have 4 6-month old house chicken wanna-bes. These are our first chickens. My 12-yr old son and I embarked on this adventure. My husband and 14-yr old son can't believe we actually did it. If the girls never lay another egg, I wouldn't care, I enjoy them so much. They are instant stress-relief. They experienced their first rainy day this past weekend and were all at the back door whining to come in the house. If we don't shut the back door, we will find them in the living room on the couch!
