So we built our henhouse at warp speed and put a cardboard nest box inside as a temporary measure. Now that the girls have a safe and secure sleeping place, we want to install an exterior nest box to free up more space in the house.
I did try searching, but didn't manage to come up with what I am looking for.
We have 3 ISA Browns, so only need one nest box. Firstly, what size should we make it? The box that they are using is 15x12x11.5. Yesterday 2 of them were in there laying, so I figure we should make it a little on the big side. I was thinking something around 13x13x15?
The more tricky thing - best way to install a nest box after the house has been built. The roof lifts up, so we can get at the inside from the top. How far up the wall should we position it? At floor level or higher?
Should we build the box part first and then figure the way to attach it to the house?
I am sure there are days when I really shouldn't give in to my impulsivity.
