Hello everyone!

I have been keeping chickens for about a year now, I have 7 Buff Orpington hens.

A few months ago, I discovered that my girls had a lice infestation. It freaked me out! I quickly sprung into action by dusting all the hens with seven powder and cleaning my coop. Six days later I repeated the same treatments. Of course, I noticed that lice eggs( I suppose that were empty) were still clinging to the base of some feathers. I thought they would just fall off with time.

A few days ago, I saw that there were still lice eggs hanging on to some of the feathers. I did a mite check three times, and haven't seen ANY mites, at all. Why are the eggs still on the feathers? And I see no mites? Maybe they will fall off with the feathers when my chickens molt. Has anyone ever had this problem? Please answer....thanks!

Some people have mentioned that unrefined coconut oil will remove the nits (after the bugs have been killed by the poultry dust of course) over the period of about a week. Other people clip the feathers (be careful of blood feathers) to remove them. I have not dealt with lice, only mites, so I can only say what I have read on BYC.

Thanks for the info! I was hoping that they would just fall off with the feathers when molting happens, but I may try to remove them myself. Thanks again!
