Update: it is a goose my boyfriend lied to me because he knows I’m scared of a geese lol, but yes I’m definitely going to try to contact a wild life center who has the means and knowledge to give it a safe life. I don’t know when I’ll be able to get it rescued so until then I’ll need to learn what to do to care for a baby goose

Awww sooo sweet of your bf to stop and rescue the little bugger...in the U.S. it is illegal to raise and keep wildlife.unless you have a permit and even then they have to come from a breeder not the wild...I however have rescued and kept babies that were abandoned/parents killed...ive had 2 raccoons and 1 squirrel 2 chipmunks 3 bunnies and a robin and a can’t remember name but the black birds with red on face ..my wildlife center on two occasions told me to let nature take its course so I just took matters into my own hands and haven’t called since..the birds were adults so I mended them got them healthy and let them go ASAP.. the babies I raised with as little hands on contact that I could and also raised them to do natural things foraging shelters etc like they would on their own.. once raised and I felt confident that they could in fact survive on their own I took them to a protected park deep in and released them..all except one raccoon he became very attached to me.would not leave I tried releasing him three times followed me crawling up my leg I’d had him since very very little had to use a kitten bottle to feed him at first..had him 3 years and then a neighbor that was mad at me turned me in..was just told I had to release or would be fined..I had a friend take him to the same area and sadly said goodbye beforehand it was very hard..he was also taught survival skills I often wonder if he made it..anyways I made a choice and knew I could end up paying some heavy consequences but if I didn’t intervene I’d have to live with knowing a baby animal died because I did nothing..and being the animal lover I am I can’t do that ..a friend of mine found a fawn side of road..mother dead..called wildlife and they took the fawn..but others I know have called about other animals and they say leave it where you found it..think has to do with what kind of animal it is..not saying your wildlife won’t take the fellow in but they may not..then sadly you’ll have a choice to make..best of luck!! definitely following..p.s block your number when you call them just in case..most have caller ID...about ten years ago a neighbor called dog warden (who I knew)said my dog tied out all day no water in the heat and I had a coon palace(she actually said palace and it was lol)and illegally had a pet coon.. well he came out seen my dog yes tied up but under a shade tree with water a couple toys and sheet even to lay on lol she wanted to be outside and i was in yard as well I spend most nice days outside..said I obviously take good care of my dog..he then told me who called and she said I have a coon he said not his jurisdiction but when he told the lady he had to tell her about wildlife and she may very well call..he felt bad knew my coon had been with me awhile..well when I called I was just inquiring about permits the law etc all I knew was it was illegal wondered if I could get a permit or something..told me to release coon or be fined and that they would be to check in three days..got my number and name from caller ID..sorry for the long story just sharing my experience with somewhat similar situations..again best of luck!!!

Sadly this lil gosling being so young is going to imprint on the OP and will have a very hard time acclimating back into the wild since it wasn't really in the wild but probably a day or 2 and it will have to be almost grown before it could be released anyway so letting a wild life rehabbers take the gosling is best for this one unless the OP is set up or wants to be set up to keep a goose and they really do best having at least one other gosling to grow up with since they are flock animals. They def did the right thing in rescuing it.

Come fall it may migrate may not since hand raised.

Totally agree Miss Lydia..hopefully they (wildlife) will take it..I just never had luck with them and was set up that I could care for ones I rescued..also depends on where OP lives if they did want to try..don’t think keeping a Canadian Goose in the city be very good idea..and I do know a couple who took in mallards they migrated found other mallards when the time came but they actually come back every year or did I’m sure those certain ones are gone it’s been years but she swears it’s the same flock lol

Thank y’all for the tips, I definitely don’t have the time or means to raise a goose, especially now when our daughter will be born in less than 3 weeks. I just didn’t want to kill it while waiting to find out where to take it. My mom raises various birds (chickens, ducks, geese...) and it looks like she wants to take it in and care for it, very helpful and will be a better suited place for it than my double wide trailer in a trailer park.

Is your ma a member?? Should send her our way!!Glad you’ve found a solution and this way you’ll know how the little one is doing..best of luck!!
