If hens truly pick their mates by the number of eyes and size of the train, then what we do is counter productive in natural selection. (Yes, call me Captain Obvious...)

My breeding barred winged IB Peacock this season has no eyes in his train,,,had tons of them last year but he looks strange this season with a full train and only a few eyes right close to the top of his back.

It couldn't be all diet, as I had a two year old pied with an outstanding train that surpassed any of my older birds. He apparently wasn't mature enough for the hens to be interested in him yet but his train was awesome.
