Hi everyone,

I have a 1-1/2 year old BBB hen. She will be the host of this years thanksgiving dinner, but I was wondering if she is too old? I'll take a picture of her and post it later, she's about 18-20 lbs.

A 1 1/2 year old BB that only weighs 18-20 lbs? Are you sure that's what you've got? I'm thinking you either bought a younger BB hen or she's not a BB. That or she's been VERY limited in feed.

Please post a photo. For a year and a half yr old turkey hen thats a BBB, it seems unrealistic for that weight. Expectually on 22% protein, she should at least be high 20's to 30's. To me it sounds like you have a Standard Bronze if she is really 1 and half years old, or like Olive Hill said, a younger BBB.
But back to your question, I really don't think turkeys can be too old to eat. Some people say there is a difference in tenderness and taste. But she should be fine, but realize she will be a pretty light thanksgiving is she is only 18-20lbs live weight.

I'm just guessing it's weight as I can't put her on a scale, too strong. Here's a picture of her though, how heavy do you think?

with the thick short legs, set wide she certainly looks like a BBB, also the breast is shaped more like a BBB. she look more like around 30 plus pound or so.
