My 3 polish hatched out on the 24th of Jan. they're getting a little big for the brooder... Can I safely put them out with the rest of the flock, or do ya'll think they'll be picked on?

I would not put babies that small out with the general population in general, but even more so with a crested breed. The potential for head injuries with pecking is just too great, IMO.

Are the Polish bantam or standard? How about your other birds?

They're standard... and keep getting out of the brooder, even with a lid on top! Silly babies!

The others are mainly heavy breeds.. a few bantams

That makes them between 7 & 8 weeks old right? I'd say its still a little too early to put in the general pop. Maybe another month? Can you make a second brooder or big brooder?

They may be OK if done correctly but if they were mine I'd hold off -

Yeah, I'll have too. They're so cute, but scared of everything! They're in a big storage tub now, they peek out at us!

I'll get a bigger one.

They need to be the size or close to it of the other hens. Also they need a space where they can be seen but not hurt for at least 3 weeks. That way they become accustomed to seeing them and hearing them. I have a coop with a seperate section devided by wire at the roost level so they can sleep close to each other also. Good luck with your little ones. Gloria Jean
