I’ve got 5 of these. They’re all about the same size. Rescue chicks that were possibly abandoned.

Looks like a New Hampshire Red cockerel that is 12-16 weeks old. Also missing a toenail on his middle toe of his right foot.

that's what I was thinking, but it looks pretty old to not have obvious make feathering...

It’s behind the other foot. They all have 4 toes. Three up front and one in the back.

Notice how the base of the toe is black. His toenail fell off or was ripped off somehow.

Oh duh, I misread it to say toe. He has a toenail. It looks like it may have become impacted with dirt or something at one point. The black is the toenail, not the toe, and it actually looks like it has some normal growth since when we first brought him home.
