Okay, I have 5 chicks, 3 rhode island reds and 2 barred rocks, I see a couple posts on the Internet that the rhode island reds will be aggressive with other birds, is this true? Because I don't want to have to get rid of any birds :( they are 2-3 weeks old

Hello and welcome to BYC

I've only had RIR X's, so I can't give tell you, but have a look here:

Do you have all females? If so, you shouldn't have any issues. The RIR males do have a reputation for being aggressive, though.

Hi and :welcome So glad you joined us!!! :weee RIR's do have a reputation for being aggressive, but at 2-3 weeks they could be establishing a pecking order. How large of an area are you keeping them in. If they are cramped that can bring out some aggression also.

They are in a pretty big start off cage, so room isn't a problem, I'm pretty sure they are all hens, the guy at the feed store said they were but it is a 90% chance... Thanks for all the info guys :D

I have 2 Production(aka Hatchery) RIR's. They are bottom of the pecking order of my 6 pullets. So no aggression from them. I will have to wait and see when I mix in my 3 new chicks after New Year

I'd love to see what a mix of RIR and barred rock chick would look like :D
