We JUST moved my 9 week old chickens out into their coop. While moving them I noticed my beautiful buff laced brahma had a small bare spot on her back between some feathers. No blood, scabs or raw places though. After getting them in the coop and sitting with them a bit I noticed several times neck feathers getting puffed out and other aggressive behavior from my Ameraucana rooster and one of my Blue wheaten hens. Mostly the Wheaten though. I know they were starting to get cramped in their brooder (11 chickens split in two big metal horse water troughs). They are now in an 8x10 coop and will have access to a 8x18 pen and also the yard when supervised. Is this type of aggressive behavior normal? If it was due to the crowding, will it calm down now that they have room?

It's normal play/mock fighting and serves to define the pecking order. Their present behavior is nothing to worry about.

Thank you! Is there anything I need to keep an eye out for, like if they start to draw blood, etc?
