Aggressive chick that bites me

Need advice please. I have a 2 week old Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chick that is acting aggressive and pecking me. I purchased the chick from My Pet Chicken as a sexed female but I guess there is always a chance of it being a roo. Is this normal for this breed? I have raised about 60 chicks (different breeds) so far and have never encountered an aggressive one. When I put my hand in the brooder she lunges for me and pecks me, this is crazy- she is only 2 weeks old! All my other chickies tend to be scared at this age and run from me, this one is the complete opposite. Has anyone ever had this and if so did the chick stay aggresive and become a problem chicken later on? Should I get rid of her? She also tends to be somewhat aggressive with the younger chicks so I have her separated (with a buddy) right now.

It could be a roo, yes. The few hatchery Wyandottes I had were the most aggressive chickens I've ever owned, I believe -- but then they are individuals.

You could try training -- gently "peck" it back, or squirt it with water. Might work.

Thank you Judy, good advice. Right now I am trying to give it lots of attention, against it's will of course. Hoping this is not a indicator of this breed being aggressive because I think they are so pretty and I would love to breed them one day. Thanks for your help

i havbe one thats a sliver lace wyanndotte and its mean

alwasy bites my fingers and tries to chase me its only about 6/7 weeks old i think

not fully sure on male or female yet but the magority of people on here so far think male

I have three BLRW chicks (8 weeks old tomorrow), and so far the rooster of the trio is a friendly little guy.

The pullets are a big stand-offish, but not aggressive. I ordered them from a breeder, though. I've read on here that some hatchery roosters could be more prone to aggression, but that's not always the case. As another poster said, all chickens are individuals. I do know that hatcheries don't breed for temperament as some breeders do. However, I have some hatchery Gold Brabanters and a pair of Old English Game Bantams and none of them have been really aggressive so far. The Brabanter rooster hasn't been aggressive at all; the bantam rooster does like to bite me sometimes, but, so far, only when I'm trying to pick him up against his will. Other than that, he likes to follow me around when I'm feeding the other chickens and fly up and sit on my knee sometimes if I'm sitting down (if his group is out free-ranging).

Yep, sounds just like mine. If I can't settle her down I will have to rehome her to keep the flock peaceful. Here is a pic of the little meanie

Thanks Blue. I was hoping this was just an isolated thing since each bird is so different. I just have never experienced a mean chick before, kinda strange to see this cute little thing try to be so vicious

Most of my chicks are from My Pet Chicken and are very sweet.

Ouch! I would protect my hands first! Wear a pair of gardening gloves, try green or blue, to separate your coloring from your skin. That extra layer of cloth is a nice barrier when chicks bite.
