I have a pair of Brown Chinese Geese. We have hand reared them since they hatched. They have never been overly friendly. The male follows me around and the female could not care less. Couple this with the fact that they have become downright mean. I realize it is breeding season and they are a mated pair and egg laying is on-going, but it has never seemed to matter, they are mean. They attack my son who also reared them, they attack his friends, they attack my neighbors and have taken them to the ground and they have attacked me. I am sporting a huge hematoma and torn skin (through a pair of jeans), at the moment.
They go after me in the garden when kneeling at their level which is suppose to mitigate their aggression. They have pounded into my collar bone, snatched the sun glasses off my face and grabbed a hold of my boot at the top and beat me with their wings, which hurts very much and there too I have a 4-inch welted hematoma.
While this may seem comical that I am being beat down and rolled by a goose it is far from fun or appreciated. I am truly fearful they are going to seriously hurt one of the kids that play here. If I want to do anything outside in my berry patch I have to put them in a time out. Her not so much unless he hangs around me or anyone else too long and then we appear to have a three-way love triangle going on that results in her whooping your butt and self-defense brings out the worst in him so then you have two geese beating you into the dirt while you scream for help.
The fascination with these exceptional watchdogs (which they are) has worn off. I am going to re-home them if there is no way to tame them or make them more friendly. They are absolutely fearless and will even take on my border collie who is actually afraid of them, as are my horses, and my cats, because they will attack them too.
Any suggestions? Anybody want them? A temporary restraining order is out of the question and I am embarrassed to say that I am more fearful of these creatures than I am of walking an alley in Los Angeles after dark.
