Good afternoon all!
I have a big RIR roo going through a hard molt. A little crossbreed has taken over all the hens while the big roo is suffering. The little one also attacks the big one so he has to hide. My question is will my big roo come out of his molt and take back what is his or has he successfully been knocked out of alpha status by the little guy? Also, should I let this behavior go on or cull the little one? Any help would be great. This is a new problem for us. Thank you!

The RIR may or may not regain his mojo. I have had many roosters who once dominated never regained their position. Whether or not you cull the younger rooster is a matter of personal choice.

Thank you. I really wanted to know if it was normal or something that needs to be corrected. I like the little guy. He’s just so awful to my big guy:( I hope he comes out of it. Thank you so much!

Another question, if we re-homed the little one does that guarantee that the alpha would regain his status? Or is it still a maybe.

Pick the best one, or the one you know is a nice polite guy, and move the other bird on elsewhere. Usually by the time there's a real issue, it won't improve. Either set up two flocks, or get back to one cock bird.
