I have a barn that everyone is housed in, but my old Roo (Mr P) and his harem are in a separate area in the barn when I am not around.
In the evening and weekends everyone is allowed to run both in the barn and outside in the front lawn area of the property.
Mr P goes out with the other boys and I keep an eye out for the boys fighting and for the younger hens picking at Mr P’s pin feathers on his head making them bleed like crazy!
Any shinanigans and the bad characters get locked in a separate smaller run I have.
I don’t free range here due to the huge number of predators around. Seems there are a lot of creatures here that like chicken on the menu!
When I get fed up with babysitting I drag their butts back in the small run and barn.
